Salute 2008

Rules

5 Games – 2250 Pts – 2.5 hours/game

1. You must use the same army for each game.

2. The models must be painted (simply base-coating the models is not enough), part of the Games Workshop/Citadel/Marauder miniature line, and comply with WYSIWIG (see below)! (conversions are allowed).

3. The 7th edition set of rules must be used.

4. You cannot exceed a 2,250 point force using the standard point's restrictions.

5. You must create your army using the appropriate 7th edition Warhammer Armies book, Ravening Hordes, or the updated lists in the Annual 2002, Chronicles 2003, and Chronicles 2004. You may also use any Official army list found in the Warhammer Chronicles section of White Dwarf. The two army lists in the Lustria Army Book are legal.

The Dogs of War Giant featured in White Dwarf issue 315 is allowed. In all scenarios the Wood Elves are allowed to deploy their extra piece of scenery as described in their army book.

6. Storm of Chaos armies are not allowed. Storm of Chaos items are legal.

7. If two or more versions of your army list are in print you must use the most recent.

8. You may not use Special Characters, including special characters that do not require opponent approval.. Special Character models may still be used to represent other generic characters.

9. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If a model is armed with an item, it must be shown on the figure. If you are in doubt about whether your conversion or scratch built piece will be acceptable, please contact us before the tournament date. We don't want you to show up with something you can't use.

10. Army lists do not have to be exchanged before the game unless players agree otherwise. However you must provide a complete army list for your opponent to view, should he wish, at the end of the game.

11. You must bring all materials needed to play including dice, measuring device, templates, models and any necessary rulebooks, army books, etc.

12. You must conduct yourself in a manner that will promote our hobby rather than disrespect it.

Rules Disputes

Rules disputes happen, even in civil, friendly games. In such cases, we recommend the following steps:

Check the rulebook, army books, 7th FAQ (http://us.games-workshop.com/errata/assets/warhammer_v7_faq.pdf ) and if still applicable, the Direwolf FAQ (http://www.geocities.com/mi_whplayers/dwfaq.html )

If still having trouble, check with a judge. Judges will be clearly visible.

If the judges are stumped, or the rules simply don't cover the issue, dice it!

Dice-offs must be mutually agreed upon. There is no shame in trying to get the rules right (may just help smooth things out next game). There is shame in being a jerk-face, no matter the context, so always bear in mind that rules disputes are no cause to get flustered!

In cases of measurement disputes, extra opinions are better than dice-offs. Ask someone nearby to lend a hand.

A Note about laser levels: Laser Levels are ultra-handy warhammer tools (not laser pointers. Those are useless). Laser Levels provide clean lines for checking LOS, charge arc, compulsory movement paths, etc... They speed up games and reduce debate. Used positively, they are a welcome addition to the game (far surpassing other arc/LOS tools). Please feel free to bring them, but also be sure that your opponent has equal access to it.

Scenarios and Terrain

1. All games will feature a scenario. Each scenario will include a possible scenario bonus of 3 battle points.

2. Terrain will be preset by the setup crew. Expect some boards ith as little as 4 pieces of terrain, and others with as many as 8.

3. Terrain rules will be clearly detailed at each table.

4. Line of sight is determined from base to base, not model's eye view.

Model's eye view is too difficult to measure and leads to too much debate. Same with terrain features: they block line of sight based on the base of the terrain feature. The height is not taken into account.

Building rules are to be determined.

Scoring

Sportsmanship, painting and army composition will have 5 check boxes each of which you must check ALL that apply. Scoring will be as follows:

1 Check = 1 pt
2 Checks = 2 pts
3 Checks = 3 pts
4 Checks = 4 pts
5 Checks = 5 pts

Game Play 75 points

(60 battle points + 15 scenario points) This is straight wins and losses. Strategy and tactics matter here and a bit of luck with the dice rolls. You will get 12 points for a win, 8 points for a tie and 4 points for a loss, with a possible 3 point scenario bonus for each game.

Sportsmanship 25 points

(25 sportsman points + favorite opponent for tie breaking) Sportsmanship is a measure of your character and style of play. You will be judged by your fellow gamers on how sporting and friendly an opponent you are. Are you able to work out differing interpretations of rules so both sides are satisfied, or are you only concerned with getting the advantage to win the game? 5 per game and a Player's Choice for tie breaking.

Painting and Conversions 25 points

20 artistic points + 1-5 points from judges) Before each game, players will look over their opponents miniatures and mark an artistic score. 5 minutes will be allocated for this task.

Your painting will be judged by your opponent by a series of 5 check boxes. To score maximum points you must include some conversions, have multiple layers in highlights and shading, and have colours that work well with the army and that are representative of your army background. 5 per game plus 1-5 points awarded from event judges.

Army Selection 25 points

20 composition points + 1-5 points from judges)

Before each game, players will mark their opponent’s army composition and theme. 5 minutes will be allocated for this task. Your composition/selection/theme will be judged by your opponent by a series of 1-5 check boxes. In addition, event judges will assign 1-5 selection points to each army.
